Goodbye Carl Kassel

I think I first started listening to NPR in 9th grade in an attempt to educate myself on politics so I could better battle my Republican father. Morning Edition was essential listening to arm myself for dinner conversation. That was 20 years ago (ack!).

Morning Edition became my rock in college, where if you missed even a moment of Morning Edition before any of your social science classes you might as well stay home. The stories were topic of conversation in the cafeteria, at the bus stops, and for my geeky friends during our pot-luck parties in the evenings.

There are very few constants in anyone’s life… the only thing you can count on is change. BUT Carl Kasell’s voice on Morning Edition was one of the pillars of stability in my life. I knew I was awake and ready to start my next day when I heard his voice.

And today is his last day… Mr. Kassell, thanks for being my morning man for the past 20 years. I will miss your horribly (and THANK GOD you will still be on Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me).
