Two words I love together BASKETBALL and DOCUMENTARY.

I had the chance to see this new fantastic documentary Training Rules by filmmaker Dee Mosbacher at this year’s Reel Affirmations film festival. It tells the story of the incredibly offensive and abusive 25 year  history of Penn State women’s basketball coach Rene Portland’s homophobia against her own players.

I won’t spoil the punchline for anyone (definitely worth seeing yourself), but know that you will leave incredibly inspired by Jennifer Harris, the young basketball player who risks her entire dream to challenge Coach Portland — and while she cannot yet talk about the terms of the settlement now, the fact that Portland is no longer at PSU is enough for me to say that Ms. Harris won the battle.
